Do you ever feel like practicing self care is just another task on your to do list?

The internet is littered with ideas on how to practice self care, and it’s so easy to get into a mindset of comparison as you see others posting pictures of their afternoon sipping tea and journaling. Meanwhile, your day has been pure insanity, and you can’t even begin to think about trying to carve out time to do a face mask or take a bubble bath on top of it all.

Maybe self care isn’t for you? Maybe you don’t need it anyways? Here are a few things to consider before you write off self care entirely though:

1| Self care is critical for your overall health.

When you are stressed, your body is actually far more susceptible to sickness, so relieving stress is important if you want to live your happiest, healthiest life.

2| Self care can help you be more productive.

There are actually numerous research studies that show that taking time for yourself actually helps you to be more productive when it comes to work and even relationships.

3| Self care can easily be implemented throughout your day.

You don’t have to have tons of extra time to practice self care. It is something that can be built into your day through small actions - like using essential oils.

Using essential oils helps make self care easy because whether you’re simply breathing them in or applying them to your skin, they can enhance your well-being by balancing your mind, body, and spirit.

So, here are four ways you can use essential oils to make practicing self care easier:

1| Start your day with an uplifting morning ritual.

How you start your day will influence how the rest of your day goes. So, start your day focused on you. Starting your day with a little “me time" can actually help you show up better for others later in your day. And when you choose to focus on you first thing, you’re more likely to choose yourself throughout the day too. Stretching, breathing, and affirming yourself can help you get your mind and body ready for the day + are easy ways to incorporate essential oils too. Valor is an oil blend everyone should start their day with because it evokes feelings of confidence and bravery. You can apply this oil directly to your wrists, set your intentions for the day, and tell yourself you are worthy of them. Next you can apply Joy directly over your heart and focus on why you are grateful. Lastly apply White Angelica from the top of your head, over your shoulders, and down your whole body to act as a shield against negativity. Once again, affirm yourself that you are worthy and that nothing can steal your joy. Fifteen minutes doing this will make all the difference for your day.

2. Make your home comforting.

Taking care of your environment is just as important to self care as taking care of your body, and using essential oils makes keeping your home clean and cozy a breeze. Start by diffusing some Citrus Fresh to brighten the air and your mood. Not only is this blend uplifting, but it’ll kill germs in the air too! Make your own non-toxic cleaning spray with Thieves essential oil to wipe down surfaces + dirty places throughout your home. Being able to easily clean your environment will take stress off your mind, and having a non-toxic cleaner will reduce your toxin load + stress too. Wash your linens regularly, and add a couple drops of Lavender to them when you go to put them in the dryer. Lavender is not only relaxing, but it also boosts your serotonin (the happy hormone) - so you’ll sleep like a baby and wake up happier. There are also so many oils and combinations that you can try out in your diffuser to bring life into your home and joy to your soul, and taking a minute to set your diffuser every day is seriously the easiest thing you can do to practice self care.

3. Get moving.

Movement, whether it’s something that gets your heart pumping or just your limbs moving, is a great stress reliever + a way to take care of your body and mind. And there are so many oils that can aid your body and your mind as you get moving. Frankincense has a woodsy smell that can help you stay grounded and focused, so it’s a good oil to diffuse when doing activities like yoga or Tai Chi. If you’re running, hiking, or trying out a new workout, Raven is a perfect blend to mix with coconut oil and apply to your chest to help you breathe. And no matter the activity, PanAway will be your best friend when your muscles are tired. You can rub PanAway with some coconut oil directly on your sore muscles, or you can even make a relaxing bath or foot soak with it. Taking thirty minutes everyday to take care of your body + get moving will help so much with your overall health and productivity. And using essential oils before and after can help make your recovery easier, and you’ll be more encouraged to stick with it!

4. Unwind at the end of the day.

How you end your day is just as important as how you began it, and that means it should end focused on you. Enjoy a relaxing shower or bath and add a couple drops of Stress Away to your bath water or to a washcloth in the shower to help the stresses of the day melt away. You can also put a couple drops of Stress Away on your towels before you throw them in the dryer to make them smell amazing. After you get out, take a few minutes to practice a good night time routine: brush your teeth, wash your face, apply moisturizer, etc. You can also add a couple drops of Patchouli to your moisturizer to heal blemishes and wake up with glowing skin. Lastly take a minute to set your diffuser and add a couple drops of Peace &  Calming. Get ready for the best night of sleep thanks to sweet smells from your diffuser + fresh sheets, and once again think over the things you have to be grateful for the day you just had and the day you’re about to have.

Using essential oils can make practicing self care easier because of their amazing ability to affect your body, mind, and soul all together. So, if self care feels like a chore, try turning on a diffuser and just breathing. It really can be as easy as that!
