Your mind is where all your thoughts, emotions, beliefs, values and behaviors stem from.

The quality of your mindset will therefore determine the quality of your life. If you learn to cultivate a more positive mindset where you welcome any challenge and see any situation as an opportunity to learn and grow, you will start seeing your life transform because nothing will phase you. You will unlock your true potential.

When it comes to personal development, pursuing your dreams and living a fulfilling life, it always comes down to your mindset: how much you allow yourself to dream, what you believe is possible and impossible, and what you believe you are capable of. If you learn how to cultivate a positive mindset, you will quickly discover that your only limitation in life is yourself. Because you are the only one that controls your thoughts and beliefs.

Your thoughts create your reality because how you choose to interpret and associate meaning to a situation will ultimately determine how you feel and how you will experience life. And your thoughts come from your mind. In other words, if you are able to cultivate a positive and empowering mindset, you will be able to have a more positive outlook on life and whatever comes your way.

So, here are 5 ways that you can cultivate a more positive mindset so that you can start living a happier and more joyful life!

1 | Journaling

You don’t need to follow a particular format to see the benefits of journaling. It’s as simple as putting your thoughts and emotions on paper in whatever order they need to come out.

This cultivates a more positive mindset because you are removing the thoughts and emotions from your mind, which is the first step of letting them go to then be able to assess from a more objective perspective. By taking a step back, you can more easily determine the validity of those emotions and analyze how you can change your perspective or your approach towards a situation.

Daily journaling gives you the added advantage of seeing trends and recurring emotions to help you better understand triggers or how you are viewing life and approaching challenges. By being in touch with how you’re feeling on a daily basis, you will also be able to take preventative measures if you are noticing that you are particularly stressed or emotional.

2 | Flood your Mind with Positivity

It’s a simple formula - if you want a positive mindset, create a positive environment for your mind by flooding it with positivity. You can flood your mind by listening to uplifting music or reading a good book. You can listen to an inspiring podcast or documentary to help you get out of your bubble and remind yourself of the bigger picture. You can also spend time with a friend or go for a walk in nature.

The more you busy your mind with positive and inspiring activities, the less space you are giving it to linger on negativity. Instead of overthinking a situation, you are distracting your mind with something inspiring and more empowering and ultimately giving the thoughts and emotions less power and control.

By distracting your mind, you are giving it the break from stressors and cultivating a more positive environment where there is more space for positive and empowering thoughts, which in turn will create more positive emotions in your life.

Create an inspiring morning routine where you can ease yourself into the day and cultivate a positive mindset that you can take with you for the rest of the day. An inspiring morning routine can include meditation, doing some light stretches or yoga, journaling and writing down 3 things you’re grateful for. You have to simply choose the practices that make you feel the most inspired, balanced and empowered so that you can tackle your day with a positive mindset.

It doesn’t have to be complicated and it doesn’t have to take long but create a routine that inspires you. By doing the things that bring you joy and make you feel balanced, you will cultivate a positive mindset for the rest of the day.

4 | Mindfulness through Meditation

You need to be aware of your thoughts because that is what creates your reality. Your thoughts are the root of your emotions and will create the foundation for your experiences. By developing mindfulness through meditation, you will become more aware of what goes on in your mind - the thoughts, the feelings and your triggers. The more you become knowledgable about how your mind works, the easier it will be to transform your mindset and become more positive.

There’s a misconception that to meditate that you have to sit down and completely clear your mind. Even though that is one type of meditation practice, there is more to it. At its core, meditation is the practice of mindfulness and it can be done throughout the day.

You can practice meditation when you are washing the dishes, folding laundry, cooking or going for a walk in a nature. Meditation is simply bringing awareness to how you are feeling by tuning into your thoughts and emotions to really notice how you’re doing in that moment and why. By bringing awareness to your thoughts and emotions, you can then start questioning them and try to adopt a more empowering, inspiring, and positive meaning.
