Use These Practices to Deepen Your Self-Care Routine

I must admit, there are days when functioning like a normal human being seems extremely difficult. 

I’ll wake up in the morning and not feel quite like myself. Sometimes, I don’t want to get out of bed, get dressed, or even communicate with another human being in person. This could simply be because I woke up feeling down, my self-esteem is on the low side that morning, or I am just not feeling up to the day. On these days, I find that it is important to encourage myself to get up, be productive, and accomplish whatever goals that I have. Although it can be difficult, at the end of the day, my mood is almost always changed, and I feel so much more refreshed than I did when I woke up that morning. Throughout my process, I began to write down all the things that helped me create a better atmosphere for myself. These are self-care and self-love tips that have helped to strengthen my every day life - Tips that I have learned to LIVE by. Due to the fact that these tips have been such a huge help in my life, I want to share them with you in hopes that they will help you as well.

  1. Positive Affirmations

At first, I thought the idea of using positive affirmations sounded strange. I didn’t understand it. Eventually, I decided to give it a go because waking up in a bad mood wasn’t how I wanted to continue living. One day, I woke up in the worst mood ever and made the choice to turn my day around. I sat down at my desk and wrote down three pieces of positivity. 

~I will conquer today.

~I am worthy of happiness.

~I am in charge of myself and my happiness.

Writing those three things down completely changed my mood for the day. It was as if I was giving myself the mental push that I needed to continue on. This was life changing. It was so powerful that I made the decision to do that daily. It has become such a vital part of my everyday routine. If I don’t write them down on paper, I say them in my head and keep that at the front of my mind all day. Doing this, gives me that extra push to conquer everything that I need to. Positivity is so important to manifest happiness, and this tip alone has the ability to change your attitude completely.

2. Daily Meditations

Surrendering your mind and finding your true self is a revolutionary act. A friend recommended that I try meditation due to the fact that I have severe anxiety, and it has been a phenomenal addition to my morning routine. Taking the time to surrender yourself and clear your mind is so freeing. If you’re new to the idea of meditation, this is what my routine looks like:

I begin by finding a comfortable place to sit. Sometimes, I light candles and other times I just sit on my yoga mat in the middle of my bedroom floor. Usually, I start the day with a 15-minute meditation cycle (I started by using the app Head Space, which gives you guided meditations). I find that it helps me to start my day with a clear mind and a clean slate. Everything that was burdening my mind before is gone and I can start the day without any of those burdens or struggles. That alone is miraculous.

3. Goal Setting

One beautiful way to practice self-love is through the act of goal setting. It’s a practical strategy we can use in order to cultivate our deepest desires and dreams. I personally love to sit down at my desk at the beginning of each day, write down my to-do list, and check the items off as they are completed throughout the day. At the end of the day, I will write a little note by each goal to describe how I accomplished it. This helps me keep track of my productivity, remain intentional, and continue to cultivate the things that matter most to me. 

Pursuing your dreams, cultivating your deep desires, and working towards what matters most to you is definitely an act of self-love. So, try implementing goal-setting into your routine, and see how it feels to you!

4. Take Time For YOU

Taking time for yourself is SO incredibly important. Recently, I have started to give myself one self-care night a week. This is the time I will do things that make me happy or feel at peace. Sometimes, I take bubble baths, do face masks, drink tea, read a good book, or anything else that puts a smile on my face. After this, I ALWAYS feel so at peace and refreshed. Taking time for yourself is a vital part of any self-care routine. If you spend every second of your day worrying about others, there is no time to take care of yourself. Adding “you time” to your routine will completely change your overall attitude and outlook on life.

Next time you wake up with a cluttered mind or an uneasy heart, remember to take time to become grounded, clear, and centered once again. You are worthy of receiving love and care, even from yourself.
